Long Fingernails: you can love 'em or hate 'em

7:21 AM
Good morning!!
It has been a great week, and with the impending Valentines Day week coming up...or as it will forever be known to me now as my x-husband's wedding anniversary (as he is getting re-married on Wednesday).  I wish them well!! (9 years after our 17 year marriage...it is time to move on...)

I thought it might be a good time to go ahead and tackle the fingernail topic!

Many people seem to have a great interest and opinion on my nails!

I know not why, but people are always giving me their two cents...

I have had to come to the decision that while I appreciate their opinions, and everyone has a right to them, that I enjoy having long nails, and right now I prefer having them LONG and RED!!

I prefer to have my nails painted with a gel fingernail polish that keeps them looking shiny, wet, newly painted, and strong, so as not to easily break.  I prefer also to have my own nails, but of course, occasionally one will break and until it grows back out, I'll need to use a temporary extension to keep them all the same length.  However, always, the ultimate goal is for all of my nails to be my own, and usually they are...just topped with a fancy nail polish of my choosing!!

Also, my two favorite colors are RED, "Ferrari red"or French.
I never really liked french style before, but I did try it, eventually, after getting so much flack about my long red pointy" tallons" or "claws," as the were being referred by my critics.

The differences can be displayed as follows:
This one is my favorite, Stiletto, or Stella, as my nail guy calls it...now recently, I have asked them to go a little less pointed and more curved at the top(1st photo below)...mostly because when I travelled up north with THE AMERICAN CHIROPRACTOR MAGAZINE, I would snag my panty hose, (2nd photo below)when pulling them up my leg!
If for no other reason, I gave in at that point, a little, to the criticisms.
Then, there is the Rounded nail, that I backed down to, as an alternative to the pointy nails. (shown below.  But I just find these more matronly, and not at all as ...I guess sexy, would be the word...which now that I write that...I guess that is the last thing that my daughters want their mom to look, and they keep telling me that my nails are not "fashionable."  As they tell me that long nails are "out," but I am here to tell you that people either LOVE or HATE my nails, and most have no problem telling me what their feeling is right away.
Ok, but then, I thought I'd try Square nails to appease my children (shown below), and even in French, which I knew they would like, until, I found out that they still weren't happy because they were too long!?  ...Then maybe it was my imagination, but after some time with the square nails, I went back to my nail guy, and told him that they were making me feel "too aggressive!"

Finally, the other day, knowing that I was going to dedicate this blog to my fingernails...I decided to try Coffin nails shape...(shown above).
All right, the name alone is just too negative for me.
Grosses me out.
My daughters like these better, but still say they are too long.

One day, I was in Monty's in South Beach with my red pointy nails, and when I walked in there was a man in a wheel chair and his brother next to him...they did a sort of "Ahhhh!!" as I walked in, but then about 15 minutes later, the man in the wheel chair said to me,  "you know, I thought you were gorgeous when you walked in, but then when I noticed your fingernails...they take away from your face, and make you less beautiful."

ME:  "REALLY!? REALLY!?"  LOL
Now WHY would someone feel the need to share that kind of negativity with anyone!?

He is an older guy, and said, "yes, maybe i am just old fashioned, but...

When, at the same time, I will meet people and in the first 15 minutes of our conversation, they will notice, and rave about how they LOVE my nails!!  (Men AND Women both!)

So now I come to my final decision on the nail front.
I have decided that I love long red pointy nails.
You can love them or hate them.
It doesn't really matter to me.
They make ME FEEL GOOD!!

When I was raising 4 kids, all born within 6 years, I didn't have the time nor the money nor the capability of taking care of myself, in such luxury.
So now is my time to shine!! (all my kids are over age 18)

With that, I request that you keep your negative opinions to yourself,
just as I will keep any judgements aside on any feelings I have on or about you and how you dress, live and thrive.

I FEEL THAT THIS WAY WE WILL ALL BE HAPPIER!!

3/8/18 ADDENDUM: Since I wrote this been going on my fifth week with the "coffin" nails, which my nail guy told me they are also sometimes called "ballerina" shaped...ok! I said!! Now we are talking...That is a much more positive title!!  Because I told him...
"I just can't go walking around with coffin shaped nails anymore!"

  1. You do your nails for you and the most important is that you like them and they make you feel happy! Other people’s opinion doesn’t really matter (I love them, wish I could type with them)
