A Day Out on the Water

7:52 AM
So, the day started with my daughter, Tiffany, telling me that I "have gloed up!"  According to her basically that meant that I have gone through a hard time (maybe with my divorce, maybe with being a single mom for period of time, when we lived in Panama...that WAS tough), but now I am getting "prettier!" (married 17 years, divorced for 8)  She couldn't believe I've never heard the term...but none of my other daughters had either, so who knows...maybe she made it up or she is on the inside of new terminology, which is a possibility!  Still, it sounds good to me, and I thought it was pretty sweet!!

HA! After I posted this David found the definition when he googled, it came up in the Urban dictionary!!  "Glo'd Up When a person got much more attractive over time."
This was a picture memory that just came up for me today on facebook with Tiffany, Age 20 this year, when I co-signed with her on a new car we found for her last year on this day!

Then just as I was going about planning my day, which had no plan.  Some friends really wanted to go to Islamorada for the day, but it looked like there might be a storm coming in, so just then, my very good friend, David, called and reminded me that I had told him that I was going out on the boat with him and his daughter, who is visiting this weekend!!  PERFECT!! Now my day that had no plan suddenly had big plans!!

David and I met on tinder...the dating app...I know, but turns out you can find all kinds of relationships on there, and ours has developed into one with mutual respect and admiration and support when needed, and just a good friendship...David has easily grown to be one of my best friends after we met on tinder 2 years ago on his birthday, when he lived in Canada, but was visiting here, and now he lives in South Beach, and travels a lot with his work, but when he is here, which is usually a weekend...he sometimes has some great ideas for things to do, and turns out yesterday was just one of those times!!
We started by driving around Star Island, which is basically my view from the pool in my building across the Biscayne Bay.  There are really some beautiful homes there.  And as the name implies there are "stars" who have homes there...I guess J Lo...we saw a huge house that also had the huge lot next door for his tennis court and then a park on the side of that! I guess that is some big wig with Pfizer, David said. I'm really not a star-follower, so I really can't give you details of who lives in this area, but I've also heard Oprah has a house at one of the islands around here...Fisher Island...we can see that when we're outside at the bar on the water of Smith and Wollinsky.  You need a boat to get over to Fisher Island...yeah, I've been there...people who live there drive their car onto a ferry that takes it over to the island and back again.  It is a bunch of huge condo homes.  Very nice exclusive area...if you don't mind to 10 minute or so ferry ride, whenever you come or leave the island.

There are also these beautiful channels that we drove through...it is quite peaceful with a lot to be seen...I said it was "candy for my eyes!!" HAHA!!
Then we made a couple of stops, first at our stomping ground of Monty's, but I have to say it was quite exciting seeing these places from the other side!!
We stopped at Schuckers and then at The Standard hotel, as pictured above...that is our friend, Sylvia, who also joined us when this was the alternative to Islamorada.  She showed up looking amazing with a jeweled cover up, beads, fancy sunglasses...true Sylvia! Sylvia has a big eyeglasses business.
This is us in Sylvia's back yard, and David parking out front of Sylvia's with his daughter, Carolyn, and sweet ride!!

Finally the trip was over and we all stopped at Sylvia's house to visit in North Miami Beach, after dropping off the boat, and then David and his daughter went to dinner at Juvia on Lincoln Rd (a restaurant on the roof) and Sylvia and I went to meet friends at Smith and Wollinski...like Ground Hog day back at Smith's, we freshened up, a little weathered, but not really seeing a reason to stop!!

My daughter, Caroline is a nursing student, but also works there, and told me later that Pitbull was there last night...I have never met him, but she says he frequents there...guess my friends have met him and he is "nice, but serious, not a 'regular bar guy'...he doesn't come out that much."

Anxious to see what kind of adventures come up today!!  Happy Labor Day Weekend!!
